Durability: Fun: Educational: I bought this doll for my daughter's 3rd birthday present a month ago. She already had another Corolle doll (a 12" Calin), from her 2nd birthday, which she absolutely adores. I chose this one thinking it would be a next step up: slightly larger and with hair to play with. The doll is indeed beautiful with a sweet face, and the hair is just as promised -- really durable, can wash & condition it, and it can take hard preschooler brushing. But, my daughter doesn't play much with this doll. When I finally asked her about it, she said it's because the doll has a "hard" body whereas her other doll has a "soft" body. She's used to the Calin doll's bean bag body, which is easily posable, whereas this doll has more of a firm pillow body. Which is fine for cuddling, but it means the doll can't be seated. It just straightens right out & falls over. And that, it turns out, is the tipping point for my daughter. This doll is difficult to play with in the way my child most wants to play. Much as she likes being able to play with the doll's hair, it's more important to have the doll be able to sit where my daughter puts her when she's doing pretend play. Such a bummer! Hopefully when my child gets more into doing hair, that feature will outweigh this one. Maybe Corolle will change the stuffing to the bean bag type! Or, maybe if I keep bending the doll often enough, perhaps I can soften the stuffing enough for her to sit. Hmmm. Comment | Permalink | (Report this)
