Furby has been resurrected from relative hibernation to join the throng of electronic pets on the toy marketand, truthfully, hes one of the cuter ones out there. With his round, furry body; pointy, wiggling ears; and cute little Munchkin voice, Furby is much more endearing than some of the competing hard plastic robotic animals. Hes also a lot more sophisticated than previous models as Furby is now powered by a technology Hasbro calls emoto-tronics. This technology enables the little guy to show his moods, from happy to sleepy to surprised to sad, through facial expressions and through the tone of his voice. Furby arrives speaking his native tongue of Furbish, which sounds like a bunch of gibberish to the untrained ear. With his owners guidance, however, Furby learns a form of English that sounds like a cross between Gremlin chattering noises and Yodas backwards sentences. The more kids play with Furby, the more advanced his actions and vocabulary become; eventually, he can tell a joke or story or play a game. Durability: Fun: Educational: Ok. So I had to have it. I would love to have a robotic creature that could carry on conversations and was fun and futuristic and was less than $50 bucks. This ain't it. BUT if you had the original Furby, this one is better. I worked on a trading floor and we abused two Furbys for about a week until they got too annoying to deal with -- the new generation Furby is better because you can pretend like you're having a conversation. You say, "Hey Furby" and it responds and then you say something like "sing a song" or "tell me a joke" --- and, I swear to God, the first time I said, "Sing a Song" it said "No" ... pretty funny. Anyway, the best thing about the Furby is it has an OFF switch - so in case it starts going crazy you can shut the thing off. It's a good conversation piece if you're an adult - I don't know any kids, but I'd expect it would keep them entertained for a while. It has some rather elaborate game to play involving Red Light/Green Light and tickling. I didn't pay attention to the rules and Furby scolded me so I suggested Furby go to sleep - and it did.
